VRayblend - help!

Another question :
I have a customer that wants to make a sign made of glass (I have attached a very draft render). The letters on the glass will be stickers printed by an office that is specialized in this. I used vrayblend to make the letters show on the glass surface but their colour is not very solid. It's a bit transparent.. This is the correct way it is going to be because of the sun's light ?
How can I make the letters look "vivid" ? Maybe I am missing somethings in VRayblend's settings..
I want to avoid using Photoshop, there must be a way in Max..

Thanx in advance people.

RE: VRayblend - help!

I know the answer!

Open your map up in Photoshop and create a black and white version. Make sure that all the text is white and the background is black. It must be pure black and white with no grey. Grey areas will appear semi translucent. Save it as a jpeg.

Now in your vray blend material put your glass as the base material.

In the 1st coat slot put your original map and click the 'none' slot next to it, choose bitmap and select the black and white map you just created.

That should do the job!

If not, post back.

Cheers

RE: VRayblend - help!

Make sure you set the blend amount correctly. Black = transparent / will not be visible and white = visible in render.

Thanks and hope that helps.

Edit : But if you are using an opacity map at the VrayBlendMtl main settings to set how the materials 'mix', you don't really need to adjust that setting.

RE: VRayblend - help!

hey Anastacia, long time no see Smile...errr long time no write Big Grin

blend is not the best choise here, you need to give "volume " to your text in order to give it tranparency and avoid getting weird shadows or reflections.

either you create the text in max or make your text an spline to be imported and given extrude.

by having physical volume...just a tinny bit, it will look very real and it will be easy to handle it's properties.

good luck Wink

btw, I'll answer the cloth thread soon.

RE: VRayblend - help!

I used as base the glass and I put as coat (no.1) the letters which were a tiff-file made with quick mask mode in Photoshop. The thing is that Vrayblend is all new to me, so I knew only the basic steps for using it. For example I didn't mesh with "blend amount" at all.
